As transversal need has been identified to improve capacity in laboratory use and support the implementation of molecular biology techniques that can be directly applied to current research in diagnosis, (molecular) epidemiology and surveillance of parasitic diseases.
As National Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology (NIMPE) has recently done a huge investment in a technical platform, the project propose to use the existing infrastructure for the organization of the training program.
The training will consist of 10 full working days (2 natural weeks) filled with theoretical (T), laboratory (L) and computer (C) sessions, with group discussion through the course. At the end of the course the student should be able to:
- Apply practical knowledge on basic nucleic acid amplification techniques ; Perform DNA / RNA extractions from biological material, design and perform PCR-based techniques ;
- Interpret PCR results and perform fragment analysis to identify drug resistant markers and differentiate microorganism strains ;
- Access public database of genomic data and perform basic sequence analysis using bioinformatics tools.
