At COP26 (Glasgow 2021), Vietnam committed to achieving zero net carbon emissions by 2050. This proposal is in line with Vietnam's commitment to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the Sustainable Development Goals.
In Vietnam, housing is one of the important conditions for mountain populations and ethnic minorities to settle and join sedentary agriculture, creating a stable life and gradually eradicating poverty.
Building materials play a role in contaminating the environment. It has been calculated that the production of one billion standard (i.e. fired) red bricks consumes around 150,000 tonnes of coal and, at the same time, is responsible for the emission of around 0.6 million tonnes of CO2, adding to the greenhouse effect.
In this context, the project aims to produce unburnt bricks using local materials, saving energy for combustion and transport, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring better human health and living conditions for local people in the country's high mountain areas.
